Let’s Play SUP Together!

July 16, 2025

Helpful SUP Tips for beginners:

🌦️ 1. Check local weather/wind conditions before heading out

🦶 2. Start on Calm Water

  • Practice on a calm lake or bay with little to no wind or waves.
  • Avoid rivers or open ocean until you’re more confident.

🧍‍♀️ 3. Practice Kneeling First

  • Start by paddling on your knees to get used to balance and paddle strokes.
  • Stand up slowly when you feel steady — one foot at a time from kneeling position.

⚖️ 4. Find Your Balance

  • Stand in the center of the board (over the carry handle) with feet hip-width apart.
  • Keep knees slightly bent and your core engaged.
  • Look at the horizon, not your feet — it helps your balance!

🚣‍♀️ 5. Paddle Properly

  • Use your whole body, not just your arms — rotate from your core.
  • Keep top hand on the T-grip and bottom hand a few feet down the shaft.
  • Switch sides every few strokes to stay straight.

😅 6. Expect to Fall — and Laugh

  • Falling is part of learning. Try to fall away from the board, into the water.
  • Climb back on from the side of the board, using the carry handle if needed.
